| 内容简介： | Returnees are often motivated to go back to their home countries to exploit their technological advantage and explore entrepreneurship opportunities. In this study, we attempt to investigate the puzzle wherein technology ventures led by returnees, who, in general, enjoy a technology advantage, often underperform in ventures compared with their local counterparts. With a sample of ventures in China’s high-technology industries, we found that while returnee ventures have a higher level of innovation input, their innovation efficiency is lower than their local counterparts. We also found that the gaps in innovation input and innovation efficiency between returnee ventures and their local counterparts become narrower as manager tenure and firm age increase. In addition, our results show that innovation efficiency mediates the negative effect of returnee managers on venture performance. |
