On October 15th, the first national seminar on Responsible Management textbooks and teaching innovation for tourism management courses, undertaken by the Department of Tourism Management of SBA and the Tourism Research Institute of our school, was held in ZUEL.
At 8:30 a.m., the opening ceremony was held in Conference Room 506, North Wing of Wenquan Building. The participants were Vice President Liu Renshan, Minister of Personnel Huang Juan, Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of the Party Committee Chen Jinchuan, Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee Qin Hong, Vice Minister of Academic Affairs Wan Shiqing, Dean of SBA Qian Xuefeng, Secretary of the Party Committee Wang Hualu, Director of the Department of Tourism Management Deng Aimin, professors and scholars from more than 40 universities including Zhongshan University, Xiamen University, Jinan University, Hunan Normal University, Central China Normal University, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Northwest Normal University, Hubei University, Hainan Tropical Ocean University, Nanjing University Of Finance & Economics, Beijing International Studies University, Shanghai Business School, Wuhan Business School, Hubei Normal University, Hubei University of Economics, Hunan University Of Technology and Business, Hefei University and Luoyang Normal University, and more than 80 journalists from more than 10 newspapers including People’s Daily and Guangming Daily. Wang Hualu presided over the seminar.
Liu Renshan pointed out in the opening address that, “the ideological and political core of the course” is an objective need for the innovative development of ideological and political education in colleges and universities, and an important starting point for the implementation of morality and talent cultivation. Deeply exploiting the connotation of “the ideological and political core of the course” of tourism management major, improving the educating function of classroom teaching, and enhancing students’ ability of value judgment, value selection, and value shaping in professional courses are the main tasks of teaching reform towards “the ideological and political core of the course” for tourism management major. Under the leadership of Professor Deng Aimin, who takes the leads both in the Party building and the academy of the Ministry of Education, the tourism management major of our school has created a special teaching model with “the ideological and political core of the course” under the leadership of the Party building. By forming a teaching team for improving “the ideological and political core of the course” and participating in the curriculum practice of “fieldwork”, we realized the transformation from teaching discourse to ideological and political courses, broke the island effect that isolated ideological and political education and professional education from each other, and enhanced the ideological and political education function and value-leading function of professional teaching. Finally, Liu Renshan fully affirmed the remarkable achievements of the Department of Tourism Management in the innovation of ideological and political teaching and the construction of teaching materials, encouraged faculty to be innovative and diligent in exploration, and wished this seminar a complete success!
Professor Deng Aimin read out the congratulatory letter from the Tourism Management Teaching Steering Committee of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education. In the letter, warm congratulations were given to the success of the “National Seminar on Ideological and Political Textbooks and Teaching Innovation of Tourism Management” hosted by the Department of Tourism Management of SBA of ZUEL in Wuhan. Under the background that the Ministry of Education has encouraged various professional teaching steering committees across the country to integrate ideological and political education into professional curriculum, it is necessary to strengthen professional courses and ideological and political courses in the same direction, implement the fundamental task of morality and students cultivation, and realize the integration of the ideological and political core into content chapters, charts, teaching cases, practice teaching, video teaching and other teaching objectives of professional courses. The tourism management major of ZUEL has done a lot of useful exploration and practice in the construction of ideological and political course materials and teaching innovation, and got remarkable results! The committee also wished this meeting a complete success, and wished faculty and students good health!
Che Wei, the vice president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press, pointed out in his speech that in guidance outline of the ideological and political courses for colleges and universities issued by the Ministry of Education in 2020, clear guidance was given on the ideological and political core of the courses, and pointed out that it is necessary to scientifically design the teaching system of ideological and political courses, and combined with the teaching characteristics of this major, we should further promote the construction of ideological and political courses, and establish and improve the ideological and political quality evaluation system and incentive mechanism of the courses. As the main tool of universities’ teaching, textbooks are the medium that connects teaching and learning, the display of the achievements of curriculum reform, and an important part of professional construction and ideological and political curriculum construction. The ideological and political construction and teaching innovation of tourism management courses are inseparable from the innovation of teaching reform. To create a set of high-quality teaching materials that meet the requirements of ideological and political teaching of tourism management courses in universities in the new era has become the top priority to promote the ideological and political construction of the courses. Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press and the Department of Tourism Management of ZUEL jointly prepared the compilation of a series of ideological and political textbooks for tourism management courses. Finally, he expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the experts and guests who participated in the conference, and wished the seminar a complete success.
In the theme report stage of the forum, Deng Aimin reported to the members of the conference the research results of the key project of tourism management teaching research in Hubei Province, Innovation and Practice of “Multi-Dimensional Integration” Teaching Mode of Ideological and Political Courses of Tourism Management. On the basis of summarizing the existing problems in the current ideological and political construction of tourism management courses, the achievements propose to construct a “multi-dimensional integration” teaching mode of ideological and political courses for tourism management from five aspects, namely multi-dimensional teaching objectives, multi-dimensional teaching content, and multi-dimensional teaching resources, multi-dimensional practice forms, and multi-dimensional assessment and evaluation. Professor Deng explained their connotation and significance respectively, and proposed that under the promotion of the achievements, the tourism management major of our college has improved the quality of personnel training, and achieved fruitful teaching results. Finally, Professor Deng summed up the characteristics of the “multi-dimensional integration” teaching mode of the ideological and political core of curriculum, which is the integration of value shaping, knowledge imparting and ability training, strengthening faculty’s awareness of educating students, improving faculty’s educating ability, and guiding students by setting the example to combine learning with thinking and improve the unity of knowledge and action.
At the stage of the theme speech, Professor Ma Yong of Hubei University pointed out that the construction of ideological and political courses can be promoted by summarizing plans and cases of ideological and political courses, holding competitions on ideological and political courses, launching teaching materials for ideological and political courses, and naming a batch of education bases of ideological and political courses. Professor Lin Derong of Xiamen University shared some thoughts on the ideological and political core of the courses. On what is the ideological and political curriculum, he proposed that we should cultivate students’ morality, return to the essence of college education, attach importance to value education, and explore ideological and political education in the teaching of professional courses. Ideological and political education should be realized by the joint efforts of faculty, students, curriculum and systems. Professor Zhang Mu of Jinan University shared the ideological and political exploration and practice of tourism management courses. Professor Hu Jing from Central China Normal University analyzed the theme in the report, which was “go far with faith”. He expounded the training goals of tourism professionals, and it is necessary to cultivate joyful students in this major with ideals, responsibilities, and certain professional qualities. Professor Jiang Hong from Shanghai Business School shared the ideological and political education reform of the school’s hotel management major under the leadership of the party building. Professor Duo Xun of Northwest Normal University expounded the construction of a new education system integrating culture and tourism under a new cultural space view that we need to strengthen cultural self-confidence. Professor Xue Bingwang of Wuhan Business School shared the view about the practical exploration leading by ideological and political courses in national professional construction. Wang Qian, the editor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press, introduced the release of high-quality ideological and political textbooks for tourism management courses in the “14th Five-Year Plan” for ordinary colleges and universities.
During the round table meeting, the scholars conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the two themes of “mining and refining of ideological and political elements of tourism management majors” and “construction and innovation of the content system of ideological and political textbooks for courses”, and put forward unique insights in terms of the ideological and political core of tourism management courses, curriculum setting and teaching innovation from different perspectives.
The closing ceremony of the seminar was chaired by Professor Deng Aimin. In his concluding speech, Professor Ma Yong of Hubei University said that this forum has achieved fruitful results, and the ideological and political construction of courses was an exploratory work. Finally, with the cooperation and participation of all attendees, the seminar ended successfully!
