On April 19, 2022, the graduate students came to Nanhu Community, Guanshan Street, Hongshan District, Wuhan to carry out volunteer activities under the leadership of Wang Hualu, Secretary of the Party Committee of SBA, Zhu Yanping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Zhao Yuanyuan, Director of the Postgraduate Affair Office and Jiang Weimin, Counsellor. They worked together to assist the community on epidemic prevention, cleaning and disinfection work.
Volunteers assembled at 10 am. First of all, Secretary Wang Hualu mobilized for this activity. She said that volunteer service reaching to the community is a very meaningful deed and she affirmed the significance of this activity. Besides, she expressed gratitude to all volunteers for their participation and community workers for their active cooperation. She also reminded students of personal protection when serving the people wholeheartedly. Subsequently, with the assistance of community workers, the volunteers were trained in the preparation and use of cleaning and disinfection tools. Then they went to the responsible areas to carry out sanitation cleaning and epidemic prevention and disinfection work in group according to the arrangements of different work.
At 10:30, volunteers devoted themselves to the busy community cleaning and disinfection work with disinfection watering cans, garbage pickers, shovels and other equipment. Faculty and students carefully cleaned up every scattered sundries under residential building with cooperation with each other. Some used shovels to scoop up piles of abandoned building materials over and over again; some carried musty old clothes and gravel like little hills with their bare hands; some meticulously cleaned the fallen leaves all over the ground; some disinfected the whole sanitary dead corners in the community carefully; some patiently placed the scattered electric motor cars neatly and so on. The faculty and students were in full swing, sweating but did not complaining about the hard work. The figure of these busy people fought the epidemic and cleaned our homes, which became a beautiful scene under the hot weather. Residents nearby also praised the volunteers for their good deeds as the community environment took on a new look and the sanitary environment was well improved thanks to the hard work of volunteers.
The success of this volunteer service activity should be attributed to the volunteers in SBA. Regardless of the positions, faculty pioneered and set an example in the activity with students as Communist Party members. The volunteers have effectively explained the responsibilities of faculty and students of SBA with their own actions. Ma Chao, a student of SBA, said that he was very happy to assist the community in cleaning and disinfection work. In this activity, he felt that the grassroots work was really hard. In the future, he would continue to carry forward the volunteer spirit featuring dedication, friendship, mutual help and progress to fight the epidemic and devote his youthful power to the health and safety of the people. Another student He Yujing said that it was of great accomplishment and happiness to make her own contribution to the improvement of living environment and epidemic prevention and control in Nanhu community. Being committed to such volunteer service makes her better understand her mission and responsibility as a young man in the new era.
In the future, the graduate students of SBA will strengthen publicity of reaching to the community and make it a regular work that is more normal and effective in the long term. They will also encourage more faculty and students to participate in the volunteer service, build up “Four Matters of Confidence” in practice, and make contributions to the construction of beautiful homeland and the new pattern of grassroots social governance based on collaboration, participation and common interests of schools and communities!
