There is a group of children who always quietly immerse themselves in their own world, like stars in the sky—shining brightly yet unreachable. These children are called "Star Children," commonly known as individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To bring warmth and care to these special children, under the guidance of Associate Dean Fu Jiadi of the School of Marxism, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), and Class Advisors Xiong Min and Sheng Kai of the 2024 MBA Weekend Class 3 from the MBA Education Center, the 2024 MBA Federation of ZUEL and students from Weekend Class 3 actively collaborated with Wuhan Huixin Children's Rehabilitation Center to organize a public welfare event for children with autism.
On the morning of 24th May, cheerful laughter filled Room 108 of Wenhui Building on the Shouyi Campus. At the start of the event, Teacher Mao from Wuhan Huixin Children's Rehabilitation Center educated the attendees about autism. Teacher Mao stated that many people misunderstand autism, assuming that children with autism are merely introverted, withdrawn, or unsociable. In reality, autism affects children's social interaction, communication skills, and behavioral patterns. Children with autism often face significant difficulties in social settings, unable to establish normal emotional connections with others. These children not only need professional treatment but also require understanding, tolerance, and acceptance from society at large.
Associate Dean Fu noted that each child with autism has vastly different growth environments and varying influencing factors for their condition. He therefore hopes that more attention can be paid to these children, ensuring they do not feel alone on their growth journey. He also called on faculty and students to provide personalized and targeted support to create a healthy external environment for the children's development.
The event site featured a "Colorful Tent Painting" session, where children, with the help of parents and students, began to unleash their imagination, integrating their beautiful yearning for nature into every stroke of their paintings. Looking at the stars shining in the children's eyes and the bright smiles on their faces, the students were deeply moved, unanimously agreeing that this event was not only a transmission of beauty but also a vivid life education class.
