From June 12th to 15th, 2025, the School of Business Administration (SBA) at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), in collaboration with its Shenzhen Alumni Association, hosted the second session of its Shenzhen Business Camp under the theme “Bay Economy, Wuhan-Shenzhen Synergy”. This session focused on the ethics of business for good, exploring the interplay between technology, commerce, and responsibility through both theoretical reflection and immersive enterprise experiences.

Ethical Foundations: Rethinking Decision-Making in Business

Over four days, Professor Tang Yipeng guided participants through key topics in business ethics, including ethical governance, stakeholder responsibility, and global accountability. Using classic ethical dilemmas—from moral conflicts in operations to tech application boundaries—Professor Tang encouraged participants to consider values beyond profit.

Many attendees noted a shift in mindset, emphasizing long-term social value in addition to economic outcomes.

Enterprise Visits: Observing Ethics in Action

The program included visits to three leading alumni enterprises, offering firsthand insight into how ethics and innovation intersect in practice.

1.UBTECH Robotics: Hard‑coded Ethical Logic in Technology Design

On 12th June, at UBTECH’s AI Ethics Lab, engineers demonstrated how “safety-first” programming is embedded into service robots, using frameworks similar to Asimov’s Three Laws. The visit highlighted the integration of ethical thinking at the technical level.

2.Tencent: Technology for Good, Innovation with Empathy

On 13th June, the delegation visited Tencent’s headquarters to explore its “Tech for Good” strategy.

In the social responsibility gallery, the company demonstrated how its foundational model “Hunyuan” supports public services like governance and education.

Notably, Tencent’s philanthropic platform has facilitated 134,637 charitable projects, connecting more than 30,627 nonprofit organizations and 10,776 corporate donors—forming China’s largest digital charity ecosystem.

Participants also experienced the “Digital Dunhuang” AR system, where ancient murals are revitalized through immersive storytelling—prompting reflections on the intersection of technology and cultural preservation.

3.BGI Genomics: Global Responsibility in Life Science Innovation

In the afternoon of 13th June, the group visited BGI, a global leader in genomics.

From pandemic-era rapid test kit development to cutting-edge cell therapies, BGI’s trajectory reflects a deep sense of global responsibility.

Dr. Ye Song, Director of Cellular Medicine, introduced breakthroughs in gene editing and regenerative medicine, emphasizing the company’s mission to unlock the secrets of life and protect human health.

Thought Leadership: Ethics as a Competitive Edge

On June 15th, participants engaged in a discussion on “Ethical Leadership in Tech Enterprises.” Topics included data privacy, AI boundaries, and corporate responsibility. Under Professor Tang’s guidance, attendees built a practical framework for ethical decision-making.

Over the four days, participants engaged with leading theories, benchmark practices, and cross-sector dialogue—emerging with a sharpened ethical lens for leadership.

The MBA Education Center of the SBA at ZUEL will take this event as a new starting point to further uphold its interdisciplinary strength in economics, management, and law. By deepening industry-academia collaboration in the Greater Bay Area and beyond, it aims to cultivate business leaders with global vision and local insight—contributing the strength of ZUEL to national strategies and the high-quality development of China’s economy.
