On April 8, 2021, Chengyi Volunteer Service Team of VASBA(the Volunteer Association of SBA) conducted a special activity of interviewing volunteers with Jiefang Road Community of Ziyang Street to listen to the stories of volunteers fighting against the COVID-19 and paid tribute to the grass-roots workers who were on the front line of fighting the epidemic. The activity aims to encourage the young people to learn from the pioneering party members of the CPC, promote the spirit of serving people through practice, and create a vigorous and upward environment in our university.
In the afternoon, the volunteers started their interview activity in the Jiefang Road community in an orderly manner as planned. First of all, the volunteers paid a visit to Li Yulan, the leader of the community volunteer team. Old as she is, she is hale and hearty. Li joined the volunteer team in 2019, and it has been three years since then. As the leader of the team, Li needs to coordinate the daily work of the team. During the pandemic, she organized the distribution of food supplies to each household. Her son also volunteered to be a driver for delivering supplies, showing the responsibility and commitment of grassroots volunteers with his concrete actions. During her three years of volunteer experience, in the face of others’ gratitude or misunderstanding, Li always stayed true to her original aspiration, remembered her volunteer mission. And she did not ask for reward and demonstrated her spirit of dedication, mutual help, friendship and development through her ordinary actions. After expressing their admiration and gratitude to Li, the volunteers interviewed three other volunteers one after another.
As a volunteer in the community, Huang Zhongxin shared his experience of volunteer work in the community. He usually helps the elderly with disability, pays visits to them regularly, helps them do housework and go grocery shopping for them. He thought these are all things he can do in his opinion and helping others is just an easy thing. “Without the CPC there would be no today’s life, and young people now should strive to explore new ideas while also learning from the old generation of excellent role models.” He said to the young people.
Chen Linyang was a naval officer in the South China Sea Fleet when he was young and joined the Wuchang Shipyard after his military service. For him, becoming a volunteer has nothing to do with fame and fortune. He just wants to help others through his efforts. Chen also said humorously,“ We are relatively young, we have to do more things when we are young. It is necessary to provide more services to the neighbors in this community.” His words excited us. “We should follow the instructions and guidance of the CPC, and may our motherland prosper forever.” Chen’s excited words and enthusiasm for volunteer service infected everyone. With the help of the social workers, we also interviewed Li Yongzhi. She said that her original aspiration of being a volunteer was to give play to her passion and serve the society and the people to the best of her ability.
